About our soap

Wholesome Suds soaps are carefully handcrafted in small batches using a cold process method.

Cold process method

In this method, we combine good quality plant-based oils & butters with lye solution (distilled water & sodium hydroxide) at 38~40℃, the minimum heat required for saponification. After blending the soap base for a while, it becomes thick and creamy. At this stage, which we call “trace”, essential oils are added to scent along with jojoba oil for a moisturizing purpose. The soap base is then colored with botanicals and/or clays as needed and hand-poured into soap mold. We keep the soap at a constant temperature for 24-48 hours and remove the soap from the mold. After unmolding the soap, it is hand-cut into individual bars and we stamp and shave edges of each bar. Finally, let the soap dry and cure for 4-6 weeks.

In a cold process method, a lot of natural glycerine is produced in the soap as a by-product. Not only glycerine but also the jojoba oil, which we add at a trace, provides a moisturizing property to our soap. This makes our soap different from most industrial soaps and detergents.

Soap base formulations

The balance of fatty acids contained in oils and butters used in soap determines the soap's properties such as hardness, foaming, and moisturizing power, etc.

All of our soaps are formulated for all skin types and create silky, creamy lather. For anyone who deserves the most gentle property on the skin, we recommend Unscented Gentle Soap Collections.

Tips for Handling Our Soaps

・Avoid leaving the soap under running water as it readily dissolves.
・Please use a well-draining soap dish to dry the soap between uses.
・Please make a lot of lather in your hands or washcloth when you use it. Warm water helps to do so.
・Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately.
・If you are pregnant or have allergies/medical concerns, please consult your healthcare professional before use.
・Store in a cool and dry place to avoid direct sunlight.
・Recommended to use within 10 months.

Color, shape, and weight

All of our soaps are handcrafted in small batches using a cold process method. We use botanicals and clays to color and hand-pour the soap base into molds to design. Colors may vary from batch to batch due to environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. We cut, stamp, and shave edges of each bar of soap by hand.

Therefore, the color, design, shape, weight, etc. of the soap may not be exactly the same as the product details posted on this site.

We hope you enjoy and appreciate the uniqueness of our craftsmanship.

The color of some soaps (e.g. the green color of virgin avocado oil) may fade after extended periods of time, but this does not affect the quality of the soap.
